The rapid growth of digital communication has transformed the ways people express emotions, attitudes, and intentions in written interactions. Among the most significant developments in computer-mediated communication is the widespread use of emojis. Emojis serve not only as visual representations of emotions but also as pragmatic tools that facilitate effective communication. This article examines the pragmatic functions of emojis in English-mediated communication, focusing on their role in expressing emotions, managing interpersonal relationships, clarifying intentions, and reducing ambiguity in online discourse. Through a review of recent linguistic studies and examples from social media and messaging platforms, the paper demonstrates that emojis have become an essential component of modern digital communication. The findings suggest that emojis function similarly to non-verbal cues in face-to-face interactions and contribute significantly to successful communication in online environments.
