Abstract

This article analyzes ethnofolkloristic data related to the fact that, in ancient times, the tradition of riddle-telling constituted an integral part of seasonal rituals. The historical foundations of the seasonal character of riddle-telling practices, as well as their performance exclusively during specific periods of the year, are elucidated.
