Abstract

This article comprehensively analyzes the role of the evidential category in the language system and its syntactic and semantic properties. Evidentiality is considered as an important grammatical-semantic category that ensures the expression of the source of information in speech. The study covers the issues of the expression of evidentiality through lexical, morphological and especially syntactic means. The functional-semantic properties of evidentiality in different languages, in particular, Turkic languages, are considered comparatively. The influence of evidential units on the structure of the sentence, their interaction with modality and evaluability are revealed. The results of the article allow for a deeper understanding of the evidentiality category and its effective use in text and speech analysis.
