Abstract

Total Physical Response (TPR) is an innovative language teaching method developed by Dr. James J. Asher in the 1960s. This approach is based on the coordination of language and physical movement, drawing inspiration from the natural process of first language acquisition in children. This article provides a comprehensive examination of the theoretical foundations, practical applications, advantages, limitations, and contemporary relevance of TPR in language education. The analysis demonstrates that TPR remains a valuable pedagogical tool, particularly for beginning language learners and young students, while highlighting areas where integration with other methodologies may enhance learning outcomes.
