BARBAD MARVAZI AND THE FORMATION OF THE MAQOM SYSTEM

This article explores the contribution of the prominent Eastern composer and musician Barbad Marvazi to the formation of the maqam system. The study analyzes his creative activity, musical concepts, and the modal structures he developed, which played a crucial role in shaping professional Eastern music. The aesthetic, philosophical, and spiritual dimensions of Barbad’s musical works are thoroughly examined.
Special attention is given to the early theoretical foundations of the maqam system, including the principles of melody, rhythm, and temporal organization of music. The article highlights the significant influence of Barbad Marvazi’s musical legacy on later maqam traditions, particularly Shashmaqam and other Eastern musical schools.
