INTERPRETATION OF LACUNAE AND THEIR ATROPATENT FEATURES IN ENGLISH–UZBEK TRANSLATION
Keywords:
lacuna, equivalence, culture, translation, linguistic gap, contextual compensation.Abstract
This article analyzes the lacunae existing in English and Uzbek languages, their cultural nature, and the methods of their interpretation during translation. Lacunae, culturally bound lexical gaps that lack direct equivalents, often create difficulties for translators. The paper examines the emergence of lacunae, cultural and linguistic factors influencing them, and effective strategies such as descriptive translation, contextual substitution, and compensation. Comparative examples from English and Uzbek languages are provided to illustrate how lacunae function in translation practice.
