SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATIONS OF MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION IN STRESS REDUCTION

This study investigates the scientific foundations of mindfulness and meditation in reducing stress. A systematic review of peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and neuroimaging research was conducted to assess the physiological, psychological, and neurobiological effects of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) and meditation practices. Results indicate that these practices significantly reduce cortisol levels, blood pressure, and perceived stress, while improving heart rate variability, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Multimodal interventions, such as combining mindfulness with yoga or guided meditation, demonstrated slightly greater benefits. The findings support mindfulness and meditation as evidence-based strategies for stress reduction and mental health promotion.References
