Periodontitis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases of the periodontal tissues, leading to the destruction of the dental ligaments and alveolar bone. The disease is multifactorial in nature and often progresses, making it a serious medical and social problem. In recent years, approaches to periodontitis treatment have changed significantly, shifting the emphasis from symptomatic therapy to comprehensive, pathogenetically based interventions. This article examines modern methods of diagnosing and treating periodontitis, including non-drug, drug, surgical, and supportive therapies.
