Abstract

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide, often resulting in persistent motor, sensory, and cognitive deficits. Traditional rehabilitation approaches are limited by slow recovery and incomplete functional restoration. Recent advancements in neuromodulation and electrical stimulation have opened new therapeutic possibilities by enhancing neuroplasticity and promoting functional reorganization of neural circuits. This article reviews emerging neuromodulatory techniques—including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), epidural and spinal stimulation, and brain–machine interfaces—and evaluates their potential to complement conventional rehabilitation strategies.
