Abstract

Precancerous diseases of the oral mucosa represent a major health concern due to their potential for malignant transformation into oral squamous cell carcinoma. The most important conditions include leukoplakia, erythroplakia, oral lichen planus, and actinic cheilitis, all of which have different levels of malignant potential. Early detection and appropriate clinical management are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with oral cancer. This article reviews the clinical features, diagnostic approaches, and significance of precancerous oral conditions, emphasizing the role of prevention and timely intervention.
