Abstract

There is currently a trend towards the use of Islamic geometric patterns (IGPs) as important identity and cultural elements of building design in the Middle East. This article reviews the latest knowledge of IGPs, surveys the main principles, presents the status, and identifies gaps in recent research directions. Finally, future perspectives are discussed by focusing on different aspects of the principles in accordance with the accumulated evidence obtained  the review.
