Abstract

Preventive speech acts (PSAs) play a crucial role in communication, functioning as a strategy to mitigate face-threatening acts, prevent misunderstandings, and maintain social harmony. This paper explores the sociopragmatic aspects of PSAs in both formal and informal settings, analyzing their functions, variations, and effectiveness across different cultural contexts. By examining linguistic and pragmatic theories, the study highlights how PSAs operate in professional, academic, and everyday conversational discourse. Understanding these mechanisms can enhance interpersonal communication skills and contribute to cross-cultural competence.
