THE ROLE OF HERITAGE LANGUAGES IN ENGLISH TEACHING
Keywords:
xAbstract
Heritage languages (HLs) are languages spoken at home that are different from the dominant language of the society. Incorporating HLs into English language teaching (ELT) offers numerous cognitive, cultural, and academic benefits. This paper examines the significance of HLs in ELT, highlighting their impact on cognitive development, identity formation, and academic achievement. The integration of HLs not only enhances English proficiency but also fosters a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
