PHRASEOLOGICAL LACUNAE AS A MAJOR CHALLENGE FOR MACHINE TRANSLATION
Keywords:
phraseological lacunae, idioms, machine translation, cultural meaning, translation difficulties.Abstract
the development of technologies has made machine translation (MT) widely used in education, business, and international communication. However, its quality uneven, especially in rendering idiomatic and culturally bound expressions. Phraseological units are deeply rooted in national mentality and collective memory. Therefore, the inability of MT systems to correctly interpret them shows the importance of studying phraseological lacunae as a pressing issue.
