In recent years, comics and graphic novels have gained recognition as effective tools for English language instruction. Their unique multimodal format—which integrates visual and textual storytelling—offers powerful cognitive and emotional benefits for English language learners (ELLs). This article explores the pedagogical value of comics and graphic novels, examining how they support vocabulary development, reading comprehension, learner engagement, cultural awareness, and inclusive education. By drawing on existing literature and educational theories, the article demonstrates how these visual narratives can transform language learning into a more dynamic, accessible, and meaningful experience.
