Abstract

This article provides a detailed comparative analysis of two prominent language teaching methods: the Direct Method and the Audio-Lingual Method. It explores their theoretical foundations, key features, and practical applications in second language acquisition. The article highlights the differences in the approach to grammar teaching, error correction, and the role of the teacher. The Direct Method is described as focusing on communication, immersion, and inductive grammar learning, whereas the Audio-Lingual Method is rooted in behaviorist theories and emphasizes repetition, accuracy, and mechanical drills. The study also addresses the strengths and limitations of both methods, ultimately suggesting that a hybrid approach, integrating elements of both methods, may provide the most effective language learning experience.
