SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF SPORTS TERMINOLOGY: METHODS AND APPROACHES (ON THE EXAMPLE OF WINTER AND COMPLEX SPORTS)

This article analyzes the semantic structure of sports terminology using examples from winter and complex sports. The study identifies denotative and connotative meanings, structural and stylistic features, and translation issues of sports terms. The paper emphasizes the role of cognitive, structural, and pragmatic approaches in semantic analysis, as well as the importance of context in interpreting terminology. Comparative analysis with Russian and English sports terms is also provided. The findings have theoretical and practical significance for linguistic research, translation studies, and ESP teaching.
