Abstract

The thesis is devoted to the role of artistic detail in the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, we investigate how Chekhov, following the principle of brevity, uses details to deeply characterize the characters, their inner world and social context. The paper analyzes examples from short stories such as “Thick and Thin”, “The Horse Family”, “The Death of an Official”, “The Chameleon”, ‘Perepolokh’ and “The Huntsman”, where small, seemingly insignificant elements reveal important aspects of human relationships, moral experiences and social differences. We have come to the conclusion that the artistic detail in Chekhov's works not only enhances the emotional perception of the text, but also opens new layers of meaning, allowing the reader to understand more deeply the author's idea and worldview.
