Abstract

 Model United Nations (MUN) has established itself as one of the most consequential forms of simulation-based learning in the realm of international education, providing participants with a rich environment in which to develop critical thinking, diplomatic communication, public speaking, negotiation, and research skills. This article undertakes a comprehensive analytical and descriptive examination of MUN as an educational methodology within the global and specifically Central Asian contexts, with a focused case study on Uzbekistan, including an in-depth assessment of TIMUN (Tashkent International Model United Nations) and a survey of smaller-scale MUN conferences that have proliferated across Uzbekistan's universities, lyceums, and international schools over the past decade. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach that combines systematic literature review, document analysis, and observational data, the study traces the historical development of MUN globally, interrogates its pedagogical foundations rooted in active learning and constructivist theory, and examines how these principles manifest in the Uzbek institutional context. The findings indicate that MUN participation substantially enhances delegates' awareness of global governance mechanisms, strengthens cross-cultural communication competencies, and fosters a sense of global citizenship that extends well beyond the conference room. The article also identifies structural challenges confronting MUN organizers in Uzbekistan — including resource constraints, linguistic barriers, and the need for faculty mentorship — while pointing toward evidence-based recommendations for the sustainable development of the MUN movement in the country. A comparative jadval (table) documenting the landscape of MUN conferences currently active in Uzbekistan is provided to situate the discussion empirically.
