Abstract

This thesis analyzes the theoretical and practical foundations of the study of lexical units without alternatives based on the lexicographic approach. The study highlights the linguistic essence of the concept of lexical units without alternatives, its semantic and linguocultural characteristics, and the problems associated with the lack of alternatives in other languages. Also, the main strategies for expressing lexical units without alternatives in the process of compiling bilingual dictionaries - explanatory translation, transliteration, selection of functional alternatives, and combined approaches - are scientifically substantiated. The article emphasizes the user-oriented nature of lexical interpretation, the accuracy of explanations, and the need to preserve the cultural component. The results of the study show that, along with theoretical approaches, practical experience is also important in the effective expression of lexical units without alternatives. It is also substantiated that the use of the capabilities of modern electronic dictionaries and linguistic corpora serves to more fully interpret lexical units without alternatives. The results of this study have important theoretical and practical significance in the fields of lexicography, translation studies, and intercultural communication, and will serve to improve the process of compiling bilingual dictionaries.
