RESEARCH ON SOIL PREPARATION FOR VEGETABLE CROPPING SYSTEMS IN UZBEKISTAN

Research on soil preparation technologies for vegetable cropping systems has been actively conducted in Uzbekistan due to the country’s specific agro-climatic conditions, including arid climate, irrigated agriculture, and diverse soil types. Over the past decades, Uzbek researchers have focused on adapting tillage practices and soil preparation machinery to local conditions in order to improve crop establishment and production efficiency. National studies have addressed the development of various tillage tools, including chisels, subsoilers, disc-based implements, and combined soil preparation units, with particular emphasis on reducing the number of field operations and energy consumption. In addition, agro-technical studies have examined the role of soil preparation depth, operational sequences, and integration with irrigation practices in vegetable production systems. Recent research trends in Uzbekistan increasingly emphasize resource-saving and combined tillage technologies aimed at minimizing soil disturbance while maintaining favorable seedbed conditions. However, despite substantial national experience, the results of these studies remain limited in international visibility and are often not systematically compared with global research outcomes. This paper provides an overview of soil preparation research for vegetable crops conducted in Uzbekistan, highlights key scientific contributions, and identifies existing research gaps that require further investigation within an international research framework.
