Abstract

This article examines the national-cultural and pragmatic characteristics of English and Uzbek online newspaper headlines within a comparative linguistic framework. The study aims to identify how cultural codes, communicative strategies, and pragmatic intentions are realized in digital media headlines in both languages. Using a corpus of 200 headlines selected from leading English-language and Uzbek-language online news platforms, the research applies discourse analysis, pragmatic analysis, and comparative methods. The findings demonstrate that English headlines tend to prioritize brevity, dramatization, and reader engagement through syntactic compression and lexical expressiveness, while Uzbek headlines more frequently reflect cultural values such as respect, collectivism, and socio-political contextualization. The study reveals that national-cultural worldview significantly influences headline construction, including metaphor usage, evaluative vocabulary, and implicit meaning. The article contributes to media linguistics, intercultural communication, and translation studies by highlighting how pragmatic force and cultural identity interact in digital journalism.
