THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON PLANT GROWTH
Keywords:
Climate change, greenhouse gases, plant growth, photosynthesis, temperature, precipitation, drought, agriculture, ecosystem.Abstract
Climate change, caused mainly by the increase of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O), has become one of the greatest environmental challenges of the modern era. Its effects are visible in rising global temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, frequent droughts, and extreme weather events. All these factors directly and indirectly influence plant growth and productivity. Variations in temperature and precipitation modify soil moisture levels, photosynthetic activity, and nutrient uptake in plants. Climate change also alters pest and disease dynamics, affecting both natural and agricultural ecosystems. Studying these impacts helps to design adaptive strategies, develop climate-resilient crop varieties, and ensure global food security.
